‘An Indian in London’ – Saturday 20th April, Southbank Centre, London

Charles is looking forward to conducting the National Youth Orchestra alongside the renowned sitar player, Baluji Shrivastav and members of Jazz Orient.

‘It’s a particularly exciting challenge to work with two sound worlds; the western sonority of the orchestra with the sound of India, and telling such a fascinating story.’

‘An Indian In London’ composed by Baluji, is the journey of the immigrant in London told in musical pictures – (including his first drink in a pub complete with slot machines and the sound of being tipsy!) and uniquely, his story of a blind, classical Indian arriving in London penniless and ultimately finding his voice in the West.

The performance is part of the ALCHEMY festival of music, dance, design and debate from India, the UK and South Asia.
