Hazlewood and Army of Generals play to 20,000 people at Glastonbury 2016
…one of the quietest sets at Glastonbury 2016 was also one of the most affecting. At the Park Stage, late on Saturday night, the conductor Charles Hazlewood led Army of Generals and members of the British Paraorchestra through Philip Glass’s Heroes Symphony, a modern classical interpretation of Bowie’s 1977 album. Lasers flashed, familiar refrains from the album echoed around the modernist composition, and a sombre sort of beauty filled the night air. This was Glastonbury 2016, displaying what humanity is capable of both socially and artistically, instilling hope for the future.
